I'm always happy when musicians I've underestimated surprise me -- it's like a perfect gentle reminder to never write bands off. Topping this list currently is Britain's The Horrors, a much buzzed-about fivesome whose earlier material might have fallen flat -- but who absolutely kill it on new release Skying.
From tripped-out, wiggly synths to soaring, stadium-ready pleasers, Skying tows the fine line between comforting and invigorating, introspective and effervescent, and gothicly dark and impressively buoyant. Read the full review, and check out the first single over at Phrequency -- then tune in to my radio show next Monday at 6 to hear some sweet tunes from Skying.
